The Caboose is Packed with Good Eats!
Select Cheeses
The Caboose carries cheeses from all over the globe, including France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, England and the U.S. Here are three of Shannon’s favorite cheeses:
SeaHive Cheese is hand rubbed with Beehive wildflower honey and Redmond salt from Utah. The honey is harvested from a local farm where the bee’s visit wildflowers and fruit orchards. The salt contains unique flecks of color that are the result of more than 50 natural trace minerals.
Kasseri is a Greek cheese made with sheep and goat milk. Delicious by itself as a table cheese or wonderful grilled, fried or even flamed with Brandy! Try it on a homemade pizza with grilled veggies or prosciutto. It can’t get any better than this!
Manchego cheese is a sheep’s milk cheese made in the La Mancha region of Spain. Manchego is aged for three months or longer, and is semi-firm with a rich golden color and small holes. It ranges from mild to sharp, depending on how long it is aged. Great Idea: drizzle Spanish Honey Lavender on Manchego Cheese for a wonderful appetizer!
Dressings, Marinades, Jams, Sauces
We have a large selection of dressings, marinades, jams and sauces for distinguishing taste buds. Recently, we discovered A Perfect Pear, a company from the Napa Valley where everything is about the PEAR….marinades, jams, jellies, grille sauces, dressings. Check out A Perfect Pear for recipes!
Ginger Pear Marinade from A Perfect Pear – Grill a burger with the marinade mixed in, then add a little bit on the bun with cheese and vegetables. Yum!
Olives and Peppers
We have olives. One of our favorites is the Kalamata olive, which hails from a region in Greece. Many believe the taste of Kalamata olives is superior to other varieties. They are celebrated for their sweetness, their rich flavor, and their unique appearance. Kalamata olives are a perfect snack alone, or added to cheese and vegetable plates.
Have you tried Peppadews South African Red Peppers stuffed with goat cheese? If you haven’t, you are missing a taste sensation. Once you taste one, you will understand why this is a customer favorite! We also carry Spanish Peppers from the Basque Region.
Crackers and Breads
We have a great selection of crackers and bread at the Caboose. Always thinking about our customers, we carry glutten-free Parmesan Crisps made entirely of cheese.
Have you tried our flat bread with sea salt? Yum! We also offer freshly baked baguets on Friday and Saturday from Lucille’s Bakery on Cary Street.
Salsas
We are a proud carrier of Gunther’s Gourmet in Richmond. Gunther’s salsas are a must for entertaining. Chesapeake Bay Crab Salsa is one of our most popular salsas. A combination of the finest Blue Crab claw meat and a special blend of herbs and spices makes this a truly unique salsa. Check out Gunther’s Gourmet for recipes!
Olive Oils and Salts
Miguel & Valentino Smoked Extra Virgin Olive Oil is naturally smoked with pine cones. This Spanish olive oil is recommended for use with fish and meat, but we also love it for popcorn! Heat popcorn with Miguel & Valentino olive oil, then flavor it with Chorizo salt from Secret Stash. Chorizo salt is made of sea salt, chorizo, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and granulated garlic. We also love Chorizo salt on eggs, french fries, seafood, sandwiches, paella, gumbo, and vegetables.
Chocolates and other Goodies
Gearharts Pistachio Toffee is a rich, buttery toffee loaded with roasted pistachios and bathed in bittersweet chocolate.
One of our biggest sellers is RJ’s Natural Licorice from New Zealand. You can’t feel guilty eating an all-natural snack.
We are always interested in supporting sustainable farms, and we were drawn to Harvest Roast Pumpkin Seeds which are sustainably grown on small local family farms in Oregon. Try them, you will love them!
